About

About This Program

DCA's Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) waiting lists are closed. When a list reopens, DCA posts the dates and picks applicants by lottery.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program helps extremely low- and low-income families rent safe, decent and affordable homes in the private market by paying part of the rent. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) runs it in 149 of Georgia's 159 counties through two regional offices, with separate northern and southern waiting lists; local housing authorities serve the other 10 counties. DCA's tenant-based waiting lists are currently closed. When a list opens, DCA posts the dates on its website and uses a random lottery to place applicants on the waiting list. Adjusted income must be at or below 50% of the area median income for the county where you will live. DCA does not charge application fees.
