About

About This Program

Forgivable loans of up to $14,000 for urgent repairs for DeKalb County homeowners who are 62 or older, or disabled and 21 or older.

The DeKalb County Community Development Department's Special Purpose Home Repair Program (SPHRP) helps low-income seniors and adults with disabilities fix conditions that threaten the home or create health and safety hazards. Assistance of up to $14,000, plus up to $2,000 for accessibility items such as grab bars and ADA toilets, comes as a deferred, forgivable loan with no payments. The loan is fully forgiven after you live in the home for five years; until then a lien is filed on the home. County-approved contractors do the work. The county takes pre-application cards during a yearly application window, randomly selects 150 for review and keeps no waiting list. The most recent window on the county's posted instructions ran January 2 to 3:00 PM on February 28, 2025. Homes in the City of Atlanta portion of DeKalb County are not eligible.
