About

About This Program

SBA VetCert certification that lets service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses compete for set-aside and sole-source federal contracts.

Through its Veteran Small Business Certification (VetCert) program, SBA certifies service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs) and veteran-owned small businesses (VOSBs). Certified SDVOSBs can compete for set-aside and sole-source contracts across the federal government, which aims to award at least 5% of federal contracting dollars to SDVOSBs each year; certified VOSBs can pursue set-aside and sole-source contracts at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). SBA took over this certification from the VA on January 1, 2023. To qualify as an SDVOSB, the business must be small and at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more veterans the VA rates as service-disabled. A spouse or permanent caregiver may help manage the business of a permanently and totally disabled veteran. Certified firms can also get federal surplus property through the state surplus property agency. Apply at SBA Certifications.
