Chef Nevia Giles Has Run Platinum Cake Designs in South DeKalb Since 2015
A cake decorating class her mother took, a clown cake carried home, and a family that built memories around food. Chef Nevia Giles traces Platinum Cake Designs back to that, and she started the business in South DeKalb in 2015 because the fit was natural.

About This Short
The origin story here is small enough to fit in a kitchen. Chef Nevia Giles's mother took a cake decorating class and came home with a clown. That is the beginning of it, and Giles says her family really created a lot of memories around food, which is how she started her business.
Platinum Cake Designs opened in 2015 in South DeKalb. She calls it a natural fit. What she says she loves is creating something new and unique and different, and also delicious, which is a useful pair of goals to hold at the same time, because a cake that only does one of those jobs is not finished.
What I love about her story is her ability to adapt to changing circumstances. As an entrepreneur, she says, you have to be able to pivot. That is not a slogan when it comes from someone who has kept a custom cake studio running in the same community since 2015. Creativity opens the door. Adaptation is what keeps you standing in it.
In the video, Giles introduces herself and tells it in her own words: Chef Nevia Giles of Platinum Cake Designs.
