About This Short
The Phillis Wheatley Westside YWCA was once a gathering place for Black Atlanta. Built in 1951 near Mercedes-Benz Stadium, it has been closed for about a decade. Renovation is now underway, and YWCA Greater Atlanta is targeting a reopening in the first quarter of 2027.
The organization met its $19.5 million fundraising goal in 2025, but updated cost estimates led it to continue raising money. The reopening target has also changed over the years. For Westside families, the questions now are practical: when will the building open, when can parents enroll children, and what will the services cost or require?
In this video, we look at the support planned under one roof, from early learning and digital skills training to scheduled health and mental health services. We’ll keep following the opening and enrollment details as they become available. Read our full report below for the project’s timeline and what remains unanswered.
