448 Homes Opened Early on Hogan Road. The School There Is Slated to Close.

Atlanta delivered 448 income-restricted homes in Greenbriar nearly a year ahead of schedule. The Stone Hogan community carries 192 senior apartments for residents 55 and older and another 256 apartments with one to three bedrooms for families with children. The land it sits on was roughly 23 vacant acres near the airport.

Early delivery on income-restricted housing is not a small thing, and it should be said plainly: that is a real result. Affordable units that arrive ahead of a target are units that start housing people ahead of a target.

A second decision is moving on the same street. Continental Colony Elementary is at 3181 Hogan Road, and Atlanta Public Schools has slated it for closure beginning fall 2027 under a district-wide under-enrollment plan. The board vote is scheduled for December 7.

These came from separate institutions on separate tracks, and no verified evidence connects the two. I am not going to pretend otherwise. What I will say is that the sequence is worth sitting with:

• 448 homes opened in Greenbriar ahead of their mid-2027 target
• 256 of those homes are built for families with children
• The elementary school on that same street is slated to close beginning fall 2027

Hundreds of family homes and a school closure plan landing on one street is the kind of thing residents get to raise before a vote rather than after it. The question on the table is whether APS should be closing a school on a street where hundreds of family homes just opened, and the date that question has to be answered by is December 7.
