After years of talk, The Stitch is finally moving forward — and it could completely change the heart of Downtown Atlanta.

Phase One of this long-awaited project will cap the Downtown Connector between Peachtree and Courtland Streets, turning the freeway into a massive green space that connects Downtown and Midtown. The plan includes walking trails, gardens, a performance pavilion, playgrounds, and even a fog fountain that cools the air like a misty forest.

With $50 million secured and construction prep expected by mid-2026, The Stitch is projected to generate $9 billion in economic value and 4,500 new jobs, helping reconnect neighborhoods long divided by the highway. From highway noise to city oasis — this is one of the biggest transformations Atlanta has seen in decades.
